What this website is — and what it is not
Welcome to getNIW.com, a research-driven learning platform for professionals who want to understand, prepare for, and potentially complete the EB-2 National Interest Waiver (NIW) process with clarity and independence. This website is built for readers who prefer depth over shortcuts. You will find long, structured, and carefully reasoned articles that walk through the NIW process from multiple angles: legal logic, strategy, documentation, timing, and real-world challenges.
What you should expect here
- Detailed, long-form articles that go beyond surface-level advice
- Structured explanations of complex immigration concepts
- Step-by-step breakdowns of forms, timelines, and evidence
- Analytical discussion of real cases and policy updates
- Practical strategies for building a strong NIW profile
- A tone that respects your intelligence and professional background
What you should not expect
- Quick hacks or unrealistic promises
- “Guaranteed approval” language
- Short motivational posts without substance
- Legal representation through this website
- One-size-fits-all advice
Many online resources—especially social media—offer bite-size learning. That format is useful for snapshots. However, the NIW process is too complex for fragmented understanding. Our goal is to help readers develop enough depth to navigate the process independently, whether they ultimately file on their own or work with an attorney.
For this reason, most articles here are intentionally long and resemble research-style documents, often including:
- a one-minute summary
- terminology sections
- structured analysis
- step-by-step explanations
- references and further reading
As of February 10, 2026, this website is still in active development. Articles are being written, expanded, and refined continuously. We are also in the process of developing a video course on EB2 NIW.
I am Mamoon, and I humbly present getNIW to you

getNIW.com was founded by me, Dr. Mamoon Rashid—an immigrant professional who is not a lawyer, but someone who has personally walked the long, imperfect, and often confusing NIW journey. My own path was far from smooth, but it was deeply instructive. Through every setback, delay, and lesson learned, I developed a strong desire to build something that could make the process clearer and less isolating for others.
In a nutshell: I was born and raised in Bangladesh and moved to the United States in 2008 on a student visa to pursue my PhD. I received my PhD in neuroscience in 2013. I taught at two U.S. universities for eight years before transitioning to the eLearning industry after COVID. Over the past 18 years, I have worked closely with international students and have personally helped hundreds of applicants with their EB-2 NIW filings. I obtained my own green card through the NIW pathway and am now a U.S. citizen. I currently work full-time for a U.S. government agency, where I develop eLearning content. My passion is making complex processes easier to understand and navigate through effective learning tools and structured guidance. As of February 15, 2026, I am developing a comprehensive video course on the EB-2 NIW process. You can connect with me on LinkedIn, Facebook, YouTube (my Bangla channel), and through my website. Since I am not an attorney, I do not provide legal advice or accept payment for legal services. Any paid services I offer are strictly for non-legal, educational purposes.
How the website is organized
The website is organized into multiple article categories, each addressing a different aspect of the NIW journey. To help you navigate efficiently, we have grouped these categories into sections: some are essential for most applicants, while others are supplementary and may or may not apply depending on your specific case.

- Caterogy 1. General Knowledgebase: Foundational articles that do not fit into a single technical category but are essential for understanding the NIW process.
- Caterogy 2. USCIS Forms and guideline: Detailed breakdowns of forms such as I-140, I-485, and related documentation so readers understand what they will encounter at each stage.
- Caterogy 3. Linking to National Importance: One of the largest sections. Articles help professionals from different fields—STEM, business, healthcare, academia, and beyond—connect their work to U.S. national importance (the first prong of the Dhanasar framework).
- Caterogy 4. Eligibility Gatekeepers: Honest discussion about who is well-positioned for NIW, who needs profile development, and who may be better suited for other immigration pathways.
- Categories 5 through 7: Post-I-140 Phases: These cover adjustment of status, visa bulletin interpretation, and consular processing for applicants inside and outside the United States.
- Caterogy 8. USCIS Communication and Policy: How to read USCIS updates, contact the agency, and understand field office and AAO processes.
- Caterogy 9. AAO Case Reviews: Analysis of real approval and denial decisions to understand how USCIS evaluates petitions.
- Caterogy 10. Special Situations: Articles for individuals facing time-sensitive issues such as expiring H-1B status or J-1 complications.
- Caterogy 11. RFE and NOID: Detailed discussion on responding to Requests for Evidence and Notices of Intent to Deny.
- Caterogy 12. Resources and Tools: Reviews of vendors, services, and tools commonly used by NIW applicants.
- Caterogy 13. Real Experiences: Stories and reflections from real applicants navigating the process.
- Caterogy 14. Profile Enhancement: Opportunities and strategies for strengthening a profile before filing.
- Caterogy 15. Rapid Ethical Publishing: Focuses on how to conduct research and publish in appropriate journals in an ethical, efficient, and timely manner.
- Caterogy 16. Student Chapters: Articles discussing community-based initiatives tied to specific academic disciplines. Many of my former students are now professors, post-docs, and graduate students at universities across the United States. I hope to build a collaborative network of student chapters where NIW resource persons (law firms, credentials evaluators etc.) can contribute directly, share guidance, and support one another throughout the journey.
Sorry, some of the articles are longer than usual…
Most NIW aspirants encounter information through short videos, posts, or threads. These formats are helpful introductions but insufficient for full understanding.
The NIW process requires:
- strategic thinking
- documentation planning
- long-term timeline management
- careful interpretation of policy
Our foundational articles are intentionally long and structured to allow readers to build deep comprehension, not just quick familiarity. Many articles follow a consistent structure that may include: introduction and importance, one-minute summary, terminology glossary (if you are very new here), detailed discussion (the main part of the blog), common mistakes to avoid, strategies/tips if applicable, related FAQs and then references at the end. But our non-foundational articles are usually shorter. I love animated and interactive learning, therefore you will see animated GIF and interactive sections in various places.
A note on responsibility
- This website provides educational and informational content only.
- It does not replace legal advice. Dr. Mamoon Rashid is not an attorney, and does not provide any legal advice. The company that owns this website (getNIW Inc., USA) is not a law firm and does not involve any legal advising service.
- Immigration law is complex and fact-specific. You should consult a licensed attorney if you need any legal advice.
Readers are encouraged to, ALWAYS: think critically, then verify information consult qualified attorneys when needed. Our goal is empowerment through knowledge—not substitution for legal counsel.
Moving forward together
The NIW path is rarely simple. It often requires years of preparation, reflection, and persistence. If you are here, you are likely: highly educated, globally mobile and thinking long-term about your future.
As we continue developing content throughout 2026, new articles will be added regularly. We invite you to read slowly, think deeply, and return often. Welcome to getNIW.com.
